The Nutty Professor (1963)
In
what is probably his most famous film, Lewis plays irretrievably
nerdy Professor Kelp whose love for student Stella Purdy (Stevens)
drives the creation of a suave potion that turns him into his
lounge lizard alter ego - Buddy Love.
Jerry Lewis not only starred in the film (in dual roles), he
also co-produced, directed, and served as co-scriptwriter
developing his own idea.
Kathleen Freeman, who played Millie Lemmon appeared in eleven
Jerry Lewis films playing his comic foil. She passed away in
August 2001 during the Broadway run of The Full Monty in
which she played the piano player.
The Nutty Professor was remade with great success by
Eddie Murphy in 1996.
