Boom Crash Opera
Australian band Boom Crash Opera played heavy drum-driven
dance-oriented rock, much in the manner of INXS, but with just
enough angst and bombast to live up to their name.
Their debut single Great
Wall (May 1986) reached Number Five on the Australian Chart.
The song was not about the Great Wall of China, but was inspired
by a news report of cracks in the wall of the Lake Hume Reservoir
on the Murray River.
The Melbourne-based quintet recorded
their debut self-titled album in September 1987 at Mickie
Most's famed RAK Studio in London with American producer Alex
Sadkin (Talking Heads, Grace Jones, Thompson Twins). It was
Sadkin's last job, as he died in Nassau in a car accident shortly
after completing the album.
Lead vocalist Dale Ryder was born in
Madras, India.
