The Carpettes

The Carpettes formed in County Durham, England, in April 1977. They replied to an advertisement in Sounds which had been placed by Small Wonder Records and sent a five-track demo which secured them a deal with the Walthamstow-based label.

Their debut single, How About You And Me, was released in December that year to favourable reviews in both the national music press and the underground punk fanzines.

The group gigged regularly in their native North East before recording a summer session for John Peel and relocating to London with new drummer Tim Wilder.

In April 1979 The Carpettes signed to leading independent label Beggars Banquet and released the LP Frustration Paradise, swiftly followed by the single I Don't Mean It. The second single from the album was Johnny Won't Hurt You.
