Foghat

Formed in London in late 1970 by former Savoy Brown members 'Lonesome' Dave Peverett, Tone Stevens and Roger Earl, who almost immediately brought in Rod Price.

In 1972 Foghat issued their eponymous debut album for Bearsville, a record that included a Wille Dixon cover, I Just Want To Make Love To You. They fused hard boogie rock with rootsy blues and were not far removed from Savoy Brown - Their second album, Foghat - Rock 'n' Roll only served to confirm the comparison.

Their third album Energized (1974) became their first of seven consecutive albums to hit the US Top 40, and it was due to their popularity in the USA that they emigrated to New York in the mid-70s. The band's basic, formulaic approach and steadfast dependability saw them become a major live draw in America, with their 1977 concert set Foghat Live almost making the Top 10.

They hit a creative and commercial peak in the mid 70's when Fool For The City (1976) spawned a Top 20 hit single in the vaguely funky Slow Ride. At the turn of the decade, the band went for a slicker approach on Boogie Motel and Tight Shoes, the former spawning the American chart hit Third Time Lucky (First Time I Was A Fool).

The subsequent departure of Rod Price saw a further decline in their fortunes and they eventually disbanded around 1984. Perhaps inevitably, the 90's saw the original line-up reform for a US reunion tour.
