The (Gino) Affair

Sydney band The Affair were originally known as The Gino Affair, led by 16-year-old singer/child actor, Gino Cunnico. The name change came at the start of 1967 and Cunnico left mid-year to join The Executives. His place was taken in the band initially by Derek Fitton (ex-Derek's Accent), and then Kerrie Biddell.

The Affair were always a polished and professional pop band, and they won the Vocal Group final at the 1968 Hoadley's National Battle of the Sounds in 1968. Festival Records issued two singles by The Affair; Shoeshine Boy (July 1968) and Money Can't Buy Me Love (October 1969). The band broke up at the end of 1969 after moving into a series of club, cabaret and television residencies.

Kerrie Biddell went on to a very successful solo jazz career while Paul Wheeler joined Billy Thorpe & The Aztecs. Mike Howlett went to the UK where he played with Gong before becoming an in-demand producer.
