Kevin Borich Express

Kevin Borich was born in 1948 in Huapai (near Auckland) in New Zealand. In 1961, at the age of 12, Borich recorded a private single on Astor Records, and formed a group called The Mergers two years later.

The Mergers eventually became The La De Da's, and Borich made a name for himself as a guitarist with the group in the late 1960s. He has been part of the Australian music scene ever since.

Disbanding The La De Da's in 1975, he formed Kevin Borich Express - usually a three-piece band, but an outfit which boasted numerous different drummers and bassists between 1976 and 1982.

Winner of innumerable "Best Guitarist" polls, Borich played such a scorching set at the 1977 Rockarena concert that Carlos Santana (also on the bill) invited him onstage to participate in the Santana encore.

In 2001 Borich was diagnosed with cancer and spent several years enduring chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
