Mark Holden

Adelaide-born singer Mark Holden (born 1954) will always be remembered for his clean-cut image, his white dinner suit and his penchant for handing out carnations to girls on the set of popular Australian pop TV show, Countdown.

Holden's successful solo career encompassed four hit singles between 1976 and 1977, two double-gold albums - Let Me Love You (1976) and Encounter (1977) - a TV Week King of Pop Award for best newcomer (1976) plus a number of TV and film acting roles.

Holden's singles included Never Gonna Fall In Love Again (June 1976), I Wanna Make You My Lady (September 76), Last Romance (November 76), Hey My Love (Feb 1977), Reach Out For The One Who Loves You (Oct 1977), Let's Go Dancing (January 1978), First Thing In The Morning (March 1978), Stay (1979), For You (March 1983) and Who Do You Love? (August 1983).

His acting roles have included parts in Australian television soapie The Young Doctors and Aussie films Blue Fire Lady (1977) and Newsfront (1977). He also compered the television shows Target (1975) and Reach For The Stars (1978).

Since the 1980s, Holden has been based in Los Angeles where he established himself as a songwriter. He has had his material covered by Meat Loaf, Joe Cocker, Gladys Knight and ex-Sex Pistol Steve Jones.

Holden recorded a fourth solo album in LA using session musicians in 1983.
