THE BAND

Pseudo Echo

Pseudo Echo was the first unrecorded band to appear on the influential Australian national music TV show, Countdown. They performed Listening in late 1983 and the song was later released as their debut single, reaching Number 4 on the Aussie charts in January 1984.

The band's 1987 cover version of Funky Town (a dance tune originally recorded by Lipps Inc) was one of the most successful Australian singles on an international level. As well as reaching Number 1 in Australia it peaked at Number 6 on the US chart, Number 8 in the UK, Number 2 in Canada, and went Top 20 in Germany.

In October 1987, Pseudo Echo won the Yamaha World Popular Song Contest in Japan with Take On The World.

Original Pseudo Echo keyboard player Tony Lugton had been a member of James Freud's Teenage Radio Stars, and played guitar on Freud's 1980 hit Modern Girl.
