Red Wedge
In a desperate attempt to prevent a third consecutive
Tory victory at the looming General Election, Red Wedge - a coalition
of Socialist-minded musicians including Paul Weller, Billy Bragg and
the Communards - embarked on a tour of Britain in 1986 to raise money
and election support for the British Labour Party.
Their cunning plan to unseat Margaret Thatcher
involved having their photo taken with Labour leader Neil Kinnock at
every opportunity. Unsurprisingly it failed, and Thatcher was
re-elected a few months later. |
