The Champions
The Champions are a trio of humans, Craig Sterling,
Richard Barrett and Sharon Macready (played by the yummy Alexandra
Bastedo) endowed with the qualities and skills of super humans.
The extraordinary physical and mental skills the three possessed
were given to them after a 'fatal' plane crash in episode one, by
a tribe from a lost city in Tibet.
As a result of this endowment by a lost Tibetan tribe they had
amazing intuition, computer-like intelligence and Olympian levels
of strength and endurance. They could also communicate using
telepathy.
Their 'gifts' are a closely guarded secret which enables them
to use their powers to their best advantage as champions of law,
order and justice, working as operators of the Geneva-based agency
of Nemesis, dedicated to control the balance of power throughout
the world.
The Champions missions were never trivial. They dealt
only with situations that might erupt into international incident.
On the organisation's behalf the super agents were dispatched to
any situation judged capable of causing a serious threat to world
stability.
What lifted The Champions above the ordinary was
undoubtedly the screen presence of the main characters.
American
heartthrob Stuart Damon, William Gaunt and blonde
bombshell-with-brains Alexandra Bastedo (pictured at left), most recently seen as a
guest star in Absolutely Fabulous.
Not to mention Anthony
Nicholls as the trio's imperturbable boss at Nemesis, Tremayne.
