Renegades was originally an ABC TV movie in 1982, then the series became a one-month blip on the schedule in 1983.

The series focused on a group of teen gang leaders who became undercover cops (a sort of updated version of The Mod Squad). The Renegades street gang were given the choice of going to jail for the commission of various gang-related crimes, or working for the police as a special undercover unit. Being clever kids, they chose the latter.

A young Patrick Swayze starred in the show (as Bandit) while Robert Thaler played Dancer. Among the young former miscreants who joined them was Tracy Scoggins (The Colbys, Dynasty).
