Animal Magic
This magical children's wildlife program was presented from
Bristol Zoo by the late great Johnny Morris. Special episodes were
later made at places like the Miami Seaquarium and Frankfurt
Zoo.
The unique feature of the program that kept kids so enthralled
was the way Johnny gave the animals their own personalities and
funny voices (to make it appear as if the animals were actually
talking).
Johnny's early assistants included Tony Soper (famous in his
own right for nature films) and naturalist Gerald Durrell who
owned his own zoo in Jersey.
Animal Magic was dropped in 1984 to herald in a new generation
of wildlife shows.
