Ryan's Hope

Ryan's Hope was a daytime soap opera set in Riverside on the upper West Side of Manhattan, The series centred mostly on the working class Ryan's, an Irish-American family headed by Maeve and Johnny Ryan (a former boxer)

The Ryan's had five children - Frank (a politician),  Patrick (a doctor), Mary (a reporter), Siobhan (a cop) and Kathleen (a housewife).

The main location for goings-on during the 60 minute episodes was Ryan's Bar, and other pivotal characters included the Ryan's best friends, the Coleridges, Bob Reid and a reporter named Jack Fenelli.

Four members of the original cast remained with the show throughout its run: Helen Gallagher, Bernard Barrow, Ron Hale and Michael Levin. The show won two Emmys (1977 and 1979) for best daytime drama series.
